Join Tim Knauer, manager of the MacAdam Student Observatory, for a presentation on the Apollo 11 moon landing.
On July 20th, 1969, President John Kennedy’s pledge to land
a man on the Moon before the end of the 1960’s, was fulfilled. At a time when the world was far less
connected than today, 25% of the Earth’s population watched the event live on
television. At 10:56PM (EDT) the first
human beings set foot on the surface of another world. Following a 2½ hour Moon walk, astronauts
Armstrong and Aldrin prepared to leave the surface with 48 pounds of Moon
rocks, and rendezvous with Michael Collins in orbit. December 14, 2022 will
mark 50 years since humans have walked on another world.
